History Maker Neeraj Chopra Becomes No.1 In Men's Javelin; Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem Ranked Fifth

Star India athlete Neeraj Chopra added yet another feather to his illustrious hat as the reigning Olympic champion became number one in the latest men's javelin rankings.

As per the latest ratings released by World Athletics, the 25-year-old Indian star athlete has jumped to the top in the latest rankings in the men's javelin throw category. Chopra - the Tokyo Olympics gold medalist - is 22 points ahead of his nearest rival Anderson Peters of Grenada.

Neeraj Chopra Climbs to Top in World Athletics Rankings

Chopra currently has 1455 points while Peters has 1433 points under his belt. Czech Republic's javelin star Jakub Vadlejch is in the third position with 1416 points while Julian Weber of Germany is placed in the fourth spot with 1385 points.

Chopra's Asian friend Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan is fifth with 1306 points. Nadeem won a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham with a throw in excess of 90m. Chopra's compatriot Rohit Yadav - who bagged a gold medal at the recently concluded Federation Cup 2023 - is currently sitting in the 15th position in the world with 1195 points under his name in the latest rankings.

DP Manu - who secured silver in Fed Cup - is ranked 17th with 1185 points. Kishore Jena (53rd position with 1098 points) and Abhishek Drall (83rd position with 1060 points) are also in the top 100 rankings released by World Athletics.

Earlier this month, with a throw of 88.67 metres, Chopra won the Doha Diamond League 2023. The one-day prestigious event was held at the Qatar Sports Club in Doha on May 5. He finished ahead of his rivals Vadlejch and Peters in a tough field.

Chopra will next participate in the FBK Games in the Netherlands on June 4 before the next Diamond League. "Another Olympic Champion is coming to Hengelo! With a personal best of 89.94m and an Olympic gold medal, javelin thrower @Neeraj_chopra1 is always pushing the limits," the FBK Games organisers posted on their social media handles.
