Évora's interest in athletics was sparked by his neighbour, Portuguese high jumper Joao Ganco. Initially participating in high jump, an injury led him to switch to long jump and triple jump. He represents Sporting Clube de Portugal and is coached by Ivan Pedroso from Cuba.
