Pang Wei Biography

Wei's parents initially sent him to an amateur sports school. However, they soon asked him to quit due to the impact on his school grades. His coach, Zhang Guangwei, persuaded them to let Wei drop out and focus on shooting. Wei trained for seven hours daily, even lifting bricks to strengthen his arms. By 2005, he was named a reserve for the national team.

International Debut and Career Highlights

Wei made his international debut in 2006, competing for China. Over the years, he has been influenced greatly by his coaches and idolises Chinese shooter Wang Yifu. Despite suffering from cervical spondylosis, a condition affecting the cervical spine, Wei has continued to excel in his sport.

Awards and Recognitions

In 2017, Wei received the National Sports Outstanding Contribution Award from the General Administration of Sport of China. He was also named a Top Ten Athlete of Hebei Province in 2014 and among the Top Ten Outstanding Young People of Hebei Province in 2009.

Family and Personal Life

Wei resides in Beijing with his wife Du Li and their son. Du Li is also a celebrated shooter who represented China in four consecutive Olympic Games from 2004 to 2016. She won gold medals in 2004 and 2008 and silver and bronze medals at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games. She has also served as the women's rifle coach for the Chinese national shooting team.
