Throughout his career, he faced several injuries. He fractured his left hand during training in March 2007 and his finger in 2013. A fractured bone in his hand prevented him from competing at the 2014 Asian Games. He also injured his waist before the 2005 World Championships.
His sporting philosophy is encapsulated in his motto: "It's only after you have put in the hard work that you realise the sweetness of getting a gold medal." This dedication earned him numerous accolades, including the May 1st Labour Medal in 2012 and recognition as a Top Ten Athlete of Shanxi province in 2011.
He resides in Beijing with his wife, He Zi, and their daughter. He Zi herself is an accomplished diver, having won gold and silver medals at the 2012 Olympic Games and a silver medal at the 2016 Olympic Games.
He retired from international competition after the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Following his retirement, he proposed to He Zi after she won a silver medal in the 3m springboard event at the same Olympics.
Currently, he is pursuing higher education in Journalism at Renmin University of China in Beijing. His future plans include completing his studies and potentially contributing to sports journalism.
