Additionally, he was diagnosed with stress fractures in two vertebrae in 2004. Despite these setbacks, he continued to pursue his passion for canoeing.

Sporting Philosophy

Hounslow's sporting philosophy reflects his understanding of the technical nature of canoeing. He believes that the sport requires a balance between attacking the course and maintaining control. His approach highlights the importance of mental strength and technical precision.

Olympic Ambitions

Hounslow aimed to win a gold medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. To achieve this goal, he retired from the individual slalom event in 2016 to focus on the C2 event with partner David Florence. This decision allowed him to concentrate on becoming the best possible back-man for the C2 event.

Partnership with David Florence

Hounslow teamed up with David Florence after Florence returned from the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing with a silver medal in the C1 event. They decided to compete together in the C2 event at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, where they won a silver medal. Their partnership has been a significant part of Hounslow's career.

Military Career Deferred

Between the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games, Hounslow was accepted to Sandhurst Military Academy to pursue a career as an army officer. However, he decided to focus on canoeing after missing out on selection for the Beijing Olympics by a small margin. A knee injury deferred his entrance into Sandhurst, leading him to team up with Florence for the K1 and C2 events.
