In July 2018, Tin injured his left shoulder while training and tore a rib muscle during recovery. A shoulder injury also forced him to withdraw from the horizontal bar final at the 2022 World Cup event in Doha, Qatar.
Tin's perseverance paid off when he won gold on the horizontal bar at the 2017 World Championships in Montreal, Canada. This victory made him the first artistic gymnast representing Croatia to win a gold medal at the world championships.
His success continued with a silver medal on the horizontal bar at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. These achievements earned him several accolades, including being named the 2021 Best Gymnast by the Croatian Gymnastics Federation and the 2019 Male Athlete of the Year in Zagreb by the Sports Association of the City of Zagreb.
Tin's journey is also marked by his ability to overcome fear. After his double arm fracture at age six, he developed a fear of the horizontal bar. However, following his elbow injury at 13, it became his main focus as it was the only apparatus he could use without significant pain.
"When I came back [from the first injury], I had a big fear of horizontal bar," Tin said. "I needed quite a bit of time to get rid of that fear. [After the second injury] I had really bad pain for a year and a half and I couldn't do all the other stuff, but for some reason I could do the horizontal bar."
Outside of gymnastics, Tin is a student of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Zagreb. He is also part of the Armed Forces and speaks both Croatian and English. His hobbies include following other sports.
Tin looks up to Croatian artistic gymnast Marijo Moznik as his hero. His dedication to gymnastics and his ability to overcome numerous injuries have made him an inspiration to many young athletes.
Looking ahead, Tin aims to continue competing at high levels and hopes to add more medals to his collection. His journey from overcoming early injuries to achieving international success serves as a testament to his resilience and dedication.
Tin Srbic's story is one of determination and triumph over adversity. As he continues to compete and inspire others, his legacy in Croatian gymnastics remains strong.
