Aaron Russell Biography

Russell's journey in volleyball started in childhood, influenced by his father and his father's beach volleyball partner, Ric Lucas. He also credits coach Aldis Berzins for shaping his career. His high school did not have a boys' volleyball team, so he trained with the girls' team, which helped him develop his skills.

International Debut

Russell made his international debut in 2015, competing for the United States against Iran in the World League. His preferred position is wing spiker, and he has been coached by Angelo Lorenzetti at his club and John Speraw at the national level.

Achievements and Awards

Russell has received numerous accolades throughout his career. In 2019, he was named Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Player of the Decade and co-Male Indoor Player of the Year by USA Volleyball. He was also named Most Valuable Player of the 2018 Club World Championship in Poland.

In 2017, he was recognised as the Best Italian Super Cup player and Best Spiker at the NORCECA Continental Championship. He was part of the Men's Volleyball Dream Team at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and was named Top Outside Attacker in US college volleyball in 2015.

Injuries

Russell has faced some injuries during his career. In March 2017, he damaged ankle ligaments during training and underwent surgery. He also sustained a knee injury in mid-2019 but has continued to perform at a high level despite these setbacks.

Aaron Russell resides in State College, PA, USA, with his wife Kendall Pierce. He is fluent in English and Spanish. His family has a strong connection to volleyball; his father Stewart, brother Peter, and wife Kendall have all played for Pennsylvania State University. Peter also played professional volleyball in Europe and represented the United States in beach volleyball.
