Arthur Mariano Biography

Nory's father, a former judoka, enrolled him in judo lessons at age six. However, at age 11, a coach from the Pinheiros club in São Paulo noticed his potential and invited him to try gymnastics. By age 14, Nory decided to focus solely on gymnastics, despite his father's initial reservations.

Club and Coaching

Arthur Nory trains with Esporte Clube Pinheiros in São Paulo. His coach, Cristiano Albino, has been instrumental in his development both at the club and national levels. Under Albino's guidance, Nory has honed his skills and achieved considerable success.

Achievements and Recognition

One of Nory's most memorable achievements came in 2019 when he won gold on the horizontal bar at the World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany. This victory earned him the Brazil Olympic Award for Best Athlete of the Year from the Brazilian Olympic Committee.

Injuries and Challenges

Nory's career has not been without its challenges. He has faced multiple injuries, including a broken nose in November 2021 and recurring shoulder issues that required surgeries in 2016 and 2017. In 2019, he was diagnosed with chondromalacia in his left knee, a condition that requires ongoing treatment.

Despite these setbacks, Nory has shown resilience. He underwent knee surgery in February 2015 and foot surgery later that year. Early in his career, he also suffered from microfractures and tendinitis in his right shoulder.

Personal Life and Beliefs

Nory resides in São Paulo and is fluent in English and Portuguese. He holds a degree in Physical Education from Paulista University. Motivational stickers around his house serve as daily reminders of his goals. His sporting philosophy is encapsulated by the motto: "The more you sweat in training, the less you'll bleed in battle."

Heritage and Inspirations

Nory has Japanese heritage on his mother's side. His grandfather, Noryassu Oyakawa, arrived in Brazil from Japan in 1912. Nory looks up to several gymnasts for inspiration, including Fabian Hambuechen from Germany, Kohei Uchimura from Japan, and Danell Leyva from the United States.

Future Ambitions

Looking ahead, Arthur Nory aims to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games. With his dedication and perseverance, he continues to strive towards this goal while overcoming any obstacles that come his way.

Nory's journey from a late starter to a world champion is a testament to his hard work and determination. As he continues to train under Cristiano Albino at Esporte Clube Pinheiros, he remains focused on achieving new heights in gymnastics.
