Flávia Saraiva Biography

Flavia's rigorous training regime includes seven hours a day, six days a week. This dedication paid off when she finished seventh in the individual all-around competition at the 2019 World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany. Her hard work and perseverance have earned her nicknames like "Flavinha," "Gigante," and "Pequena Notavel."

Injuries and Recovery

Despite facing several injuries, Flavia's resilience is commendable. She injured her right ankle before the 2020 Olympic Games but still competed in Tokyo. After undergoing surgery in August 2021, she returned to training five months later. Another injury to the same ankle during the 2022 World Championships required further surgery. She made a comeback to competition in April 2023.

In August 2017, Flavia suffered a spine injury that kept her out of action for about five months. Her ability to bounce back from these setbacks showcases her determination and passion for gymnastics.

Inspirations and Philosophy

Flavia looks up to US artistic gymnast Simone Biles as her idol. Her sporting philosophy is simple yet profound: "I practise gymnastics to see the smile on the face of people when I am competing or giving a talk. That's the fruit of my work." This motto reflects her commitment to bringing joy through her performances.

Personal Growth

At age 17, Flavia experienced a significant growth spurt, growing eight centimetres in less than a year after the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. This growth helped her improve her performance, especially on the vault and during transitions. Despite this change, she remains affectionately known as "Flavinha."

Future Ambitions

Looking ahead, Flavia aims to win a medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Her journey so far has been marked by dedication, resilience, and an unwavering passion for gymnastics. As she continues to train and compete, Flavia remains focused on achieving her goals and inspiring others through her performances.
