Arthur Zanetti Biography

Zanetti pursued higher education in Physical Education at the University of Sao Caetano do Sul (USCS) in Brazil. Fluent in Portuguese, he balances his professional life as an Armed Forces athlete with his personal life, where he is a husband to Jessica and father to Liam, born in 2020.

Career Highlights

Arthur Zanetti has achieved numerous milestones throughout his career. He became the first Brazilian artistic gymnast to win an Olympic medal by securing gold on rings at the 2012 London Games. He followed this with a silver medal on rings at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, making him the first Brazilian gymnast to win more than one Olympic medal.

In addition to his Olympic success, Zanetti also made history at the World Championships. He won a silver medal on rings at the 2011 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, becoming the first Brazilian gymnast to achieve this feat. In 2013, he clinched gold on rings at the World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium.

Challenges and Injuries

Zanetti's career has not been without its challenges. A virus prevented him from competing at the 2022 South American Games and the World Championships. Bursitis in his right shoulder kept him out of the 2021 Pan American Championships. Despite undergoing surgery on his right shoulder in November 2021, he returned to competition by May 2022.

In 2019, he competed with a shoulder injury at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. Earlier, in 2018, he ruptured his biceps muscle but recovered in time for the World Championships in Doha, Qatar. His left shoulder surgery in August 2016 saw him return to competition by May 2017.

Zanetti's contributions have been recognised with several awards. In 2020, he received the Sports Merit Cross from the Brazilian government. He was honoured as an Emeritus Citizen in Sao Caetano do Sul in 2018 and received the Di Thiene Medal in 2017 for supporting city development.

The Arthur Zanetti Artistic Gymnastics Training Centre was inaugurated in Sergipe, Brazil, in 2017. Zanetti was named Best Artistic Gymnast of the Year by the Brazilian Olympic Committee multiple times between 2012 and 2018. He also received the Brasil Olimpico Award as Male Olympic Athlete of the Year in 2012 and 2014.
