Sable made his Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, setting a national record in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 8:18.12. He was the fastest non-qualifier across all heats. He has also been a finalist twice at the World Championships (2019 and 2022).
In 2019, Sable became the first male steeplechaser from India to qualify for the World Championships since Deena Ram in 1991. He broke his national record twice that year. At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, he won a silver medal in the 3000m steeplechase, narrowly missing gold by 0.05 seconds.
Sable faced an ankle injury in 2018 that prevented him from qualifying for the Asian Games. Despite this setback, he broke a 30-year national record later that year at the Open National Championships in Bhubaneswar.
Sable trains in Colorado Springs, USA, and at the Inspire Institute of Sports in Bellary, India. His personal coach is Amrish Kumar. Initially trained by Nikolai Snesarev, he returned to Kumar in 2018 as he found Snesarev's training unsuitable.
Sable draws inspiration from his upbringing when facing weariness and fatigue. His parents worked as sugarcane cutters, brick kiln labourers, and farm workers. He never thought he would be into sports and always believed he would become a labourer.
Sable received the Arjuna Award from the President of India in 2022 for his contributions to athletics.
Sable's successes have highlighted the lack of basic amenities in his village. After winning a medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2022, government officials visited his village to discuss infrastructure improvements. His father noted that one medal brought electricity to their village, and another could bring them a road.
Sable aims to continue representing India on international platforms and hopes to bring more facilities to his community through his achievements.
