OUT! Caught. Nathan Lyon to Tim Southee. Off break length ball, outside off stump on the front foot defending, outside edge to first slip, by Smith. There it is, Lyon snares Southee with one that skids straight on and Smith makes no mistake. Hugs and high fives all round for Australia, commiserations for New Zealand.

Australia have beaten New Zealand by 296 runs in Perth to take a 1-0 lead in this Trans-Tasman series. It was a dominant display by the hosts built around a sublime century by Marnus Labuschagne and some ferocious fast bowling by Mitchell Starc. Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon also chipped in with handy wickets, an important contribution with Josh Hazlewood unable to bowl. New Zealand were also hampered by the loss of Lockie Ferguson to injury as well as a tame first innings batting effort, leaving them with a massive deficit. Neil Wagner and Tim Southee showed incredible fighting spirit and physical fitness to keep the tourists going, while BJ Watling was his usual defiant self with the bat today. In the end though it was a massive victory for the Aussies, putting them in a great position heading to the MCG for the Boxing Day Test. The Black Caps have time to reflect before then so we shall expect them to come back stronger.

OUT! Caught. Mitchell Starc to Neil Wagner. Short, down leg side on the back foot Fended, outside edge to wicketkeeper, by Paine. Starc has the last laugh. Wagner always seemed like he was in the middle for a good time not a long time. Yet another short ball, that's been the story of this Test match as far as the quick bowlers are concerned. Ferguson comes out to bat despite his injury, that sums up New Zealand's fighting spirit.

SIX! Mitchell Starc to Neil Wagner. Short, down leg side on the back foot pulling, top edge in the air uncontrolled over third man for 6 runs. What a shot from Wagner. Even Starc has a smile about it. He was by no means in control of it but he'll say it was intentional.

OUT! Caught. Pat Cummins to Mitchell Santner. Short, down leg side on the back foot Fended, Spliced to silly point, by Head. Ferocious fast bowling and Santner is all at sea. He had his issues with the short ball against England recently and there is much more pace in this Aussie attack. Cummins is aware of that and pins him with a brutal delivery. Head has superb quick reactions to snaffle it at head height. The end is nigh in Perth.

OUT! Caught. Mitchell Starc to BJ Watling. Back of a length, down leg side on the back foot glancing, Gloved to wicketkeeper, by Paine. Paine is convinced there was a bit of glove on this but Starc isn't too sure. The captain takes control and quickly signals for a review. Watling looks guilty and the replays show why, there is the tiniest little brush of the bottom hand on the way through. Eight wickets in the match for Starc now and Australia will be pushing for victory this evening.
