Commentary
MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings had a memorable homecoming at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and registered a win over Lucknow Super Giants in their IPL 2023.
In the high-scoring game where 423 runs were scored in 20 overs at the Chepauk, CSK spinners proved to be vital as the hosts prevented LSG batters from crossing the line.
Moeen Ali (4/26) and Mitchell Santner (1/21) put a brake on the flow of runs after LSG openers were going all guns blazing the powerplay.
Kyle Mayers (53 off 22) slammed his second consecutive fifty and was looking in a menacing form but once he was dismissed by Ali the floodgates were opened. There were a few cameos from other batters but none of them could help them change the course of the game.
Earlier in the day, Ruturaj Gaikwad continued his sublime form with the bat and his century stand with opener Devon Conway laid the foundation for a big total for CSK.
Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni gave the finishing touches with the bat in the death overs and helped the Yellow Brigade post a massive total on the board.
MS Dhoni went on to become the seventh Indian batter to amass 5000 runs in the IPL and joined the elite club.
