With playoffs spots sealed by four other teams, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings will play for pride in tonight's final league stage match of IPL 2022 match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Eighth-placed SRH will be without the services of skipper Kane Williamson, who has flown back home to New Zealand for the birth of his second child. Bhuvneshwar Kumar or Nicholas Pooran will may take the stand-in skipper's role.
Mayank Agarwal's PBKS, on the other hand, have been very inconsistent like their opponents and occupy one place above in seventh with an opportunity to finish the campaign on a high.
Both teams will also look to test the players who have not been give much opportunity this season with an eye on next season. PBKS, however, may want to improve their head-to-head record against SRH as they have won only 5 of the 18 matches.
In the reverse fixture last month, SRH eased to a 7-wicket victory over PBKS after restricting Mayank-less Punjab side that was led by former Sunrisers Shikhar Dhawan.
They will clash at Wankhede, where the two sides have won just one of their 3 matches at the venue, which has favoured the chasing team. The pitch has offered pacers good bounce and also assisted spinners as the match progresses. So, the teams may play opt for slower bowlers.
