And that's that as far as England's innings is concerned. No real resistance this morning, just the ten balls it took for India to take the last wicket that they needed. Movement away off the pitch and no footwork from Curran and he succeeds only in feathering an easy catch through to Karthik who makes amends for last night's drop.

After winning the toss and electing to bat and being in a strong position with Root and Bairstow in at tea, they will have to ask themselves some serious questions as to quite how they have got themselves into this miss. Ashwin was excellent for India, on day one of the test series his success is ominous for England. He was well supported by Shami however it was a moment of terrible running between the established partnership of Root and Bairstow that has proved the single most significant of the day, giving Virat Kohli the opportunity to run out the England captain on 80.

A real body blow for England who would have hoped for a decent first innings lead. Now their openers have to come out for a tricky 20 minute period at the the end of the day when they will no doubt be tired. India could grab the initiative here with a couple of wickets.

Umesh finally finds the edge as Curran looks to run the ball down to third man for the single. England are all out at tea for 180 which gives them a lead of 193. Curran fought hard bringing up his fifty but there wasn't much from anybody else.
India have been quite brilliant today, Ishant Sharma (5-51) and Ravichandran Ashwin (3-59) were the main wicket takers and they have put their team into a very strong position.
The ball is still moving though and if there is one man you would want in these conditions that would be James Anderson. The next session is going to be very interesting.

Stokes is the hero, he loves the big occasion and drinks in the moment with his teammates. What an amazing Test match it has been.
Wow. We have witnessed one of the great Test matches over the last few days in Birmingham. With more see-sawing back and forth than a children's playground, it has been impossible to predict and completely engrossing. The match situation was on a knife-edge this morning, but Jimmy Anderson swung the pendulum in England's favour with a wicket in the opening over. A double-wicket maiden from Ben Stokes, including the wicket of the sensational Virat Kohli, whipped the Edgbaston crowd into a frenzy and from there it was always going to be tough for the tourists. Adil Rashid snared Ishant Sharma with a googly before the enigmatic Durham allrounder sealed the victory with his fourth wicket of the innings. Commiserations to India, this will be a very difficult defeat to take but they have played their part in a fantastic contest. They will need to regroup and come back hard at Lord's in the Second Test, which starts on Thursday. Let's hope we have more of the same gripping action there and in the rest of the series.
