Commentary

If round one of the India-Pakistan encounter of Asia Cup 2022 belonged to the Men In Blue, the Men In Green came back strongly in round two to clinch a victory to make it 1-all.

Pakistan defeated India by 5 wickets in a last-over thriller and registered their first win in the Super 4 stage.

Chasing a respectable target of 182 on a pitch where batting looked easy in the second innings, Pakistan chased down the total with one ball to spare as Asif Ali and Khusdil Shah helped the team cross the winning line in the final over.

Mohammad Rizwan (71) and Mohammad Nawaz (42) shared a steady partnership of 73 runs for the third wicket which helped Pakistan remain in the hunt. Rizwan - who wasn't completely fit after the knee injury while fielding - once again proved why he's rated highly in this format and constructed his innings brilliantly. He mixed aggression with caution and kept his team in the hunt all through the game.

While Nawaz and Rizwan were dismissed at critical junctures in the game but Indian bowlers and fielders - up to an extent - failed to maintain the pressure as the game slipped away from their grip.

Earlier in the day, Virat Kohli's second consecutive fifty and Rohit Sharma's cameo helped India post 181 for seven after being put in to bat first. It was yet another occasion when the team looked heavily reliant over top three as the middle-order failed to score runs freely against a quality spin attack from Pakistan.

India and Pakistan will now face Afghanistan and Sri Lanka in their remaining Super 4 fixtures and the team with the most points will qualify for the finals.
