What a statement that was from the hosts. After being skittled for just 112 three days ago in Dharamsala, they came out today intent on putting things right. Rohit Sharma was patient to begin with, content to bide his time and slowly expand his game. After reaching his century, he really cut loose and demolished the Sri Lankan bowling attack to all parts of the ground. It was Mohali mayhem, a blitzing boundary-bonanza from the destructive right-hander - he compiled his third ODI double century in a ridiculous hitting spree. Handy contributions from Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer mean the visitors have it all to do at the halfway point.

Rohit Sharma's masterful double century has propelled India to a series-levelling victory in Mohali. The stand-in skipper gave an exhibition in ODI batting, playing patiently to begin with before going up through the gears, culminating in a devastating assault on the Sri Lankan bowlers. He received handy support from Shikhar Dhawan (68) and Shreyas Iyer (88) as the hosts posted an imperious 392/4. In reality that total was never in any danger, far beyond the capabilities of the tourists today. Angelo Mathews offered some resistance in notching up his second ODI century, but no other batsman could make a significant score to put the home side under pressure. That means we are wonderfully poised heading into the Third ODI on Sunday, a winner-takes-all contest that is sure to be a thriller.
