- India have won five out of seven multigame bilateral T20I series against Sri Lanka (D1 L1), including each of the last two on the bounce; Sri Lanka’s sole win came in their only such series at home (2-1 in July 2021).
- Sri Lanka lost their most recent men’s T20I at home by three runs against Afghanistan (21 February 2024) breaking a three-match winning run; they will be looking to avoid losing back-to-back matches at home for the first time since a five-game losing streak from September 2021 to June 2022.
- Sri Lanka have lost five of their last seven T20Is at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium (W2) but won their most recent match by four wickets against Australia (11 June 2022); India won against Sri Lanka at their only previous meeting at the venue by 39 runs (7 August 2012).
- India have won 12 of their last 13 T20Is including each of their last four on the bounce; a win in this match will make it 15 wins in 2024, which would equal their second-best win total in a calendar year (won 28 matches in 2022).
- Sri Lanka spinners have taken seven wickets in powerplays at an average of 15.1, the best rate amongst full-member nations since the start of 2024.
- Maheesh Theekshana (49) is one match away from becoming the 15th Sri Lanka player to reach 50 T20Is; he has taken a wicket in only two of his last five matches after taking at least one wicket in seven consecutive matches prior to this span.
- Yashasvi Jaiswal (India) has recorded three 60+ scores in his last six T20Is, after failing to reach that landmark in his previous seven innings.
- Angelo Matthews has scored 268 T20I runs at an average of 44.7 since the start of 2024; no other Sri Lanka player has averaged more than 30 in that span.
- Hardik Pandya is the only India player to take more than 10 wickets (11) and score more than 100 runs (144) in T20Is since the start of 2024.
