IPL 2024: Hits and Flops from Week 2 - From Mayank Yadav and KKR to Rashid Khan and CSK

As we enter the 3rd weekend of the Indian Premier League 2024 season, the story of this season is looking pretty delicate at the moment.

Two teams, namely Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals have started brilliantly whereas Mumbai Indians are yet to get a point on their board. The Points Table is subject to change with each passing game, but the Paltans and a few other teams have stayed in the red zone for quite a few days now.

IPL 2024 Hits and Flops from Week 2

The Week 2 of IPL 2024 saw some enthralling action. Delhi Capitals registered their first victory of the season, and then suffered a thumping at the hands of KKR. Punjab Kings also secured a fantastic victory over Gujarat Titans in their latest game. Sunrisers came back to winning ways while RCB continued their losing streak.

We saw the emergence of young talents who consolidated on their start, while the veterans failed yet again. The beauty of IPL beholds here and let's have a look at the Hits and Flops from Week 2 of the IPL 2024-

IPL 2024: Hits from the Indian Premier League Week 2

Mayank Yadav (LSG)

Lucknow Super Giants pacer Mayank Yadav arrived in style in the IPL 2024 last Saturday (March 30). Mayank Yadav picked up three wickets on debut and bowled the fastest delivery of the IPL 2024 which was 155.8 kph. And then he backed that up with another stellar spell against RCB. He picked up three wickets again and clocked 156.7 kph, breaking his own previous record for the fastest delivery of this season. The LSG youngster also became the first player in IPL history to win two Player of the Match awards in his first two games.

Shashank Singh (PBKS)

Punjab's Shashank Singh emerged as a star for them in their win over Gujarat Titans. The 32-year-old, who was being speculated as a 'Mistaken Identity' signing for PBKS during IPL 2024 Auction, showed his mettle with an excellent unbeaten 62 in Ahmedabad and won his team two important points. The Chhatisgarh player also cleared the air on the auction controversy and earned high praises from PBKS owner Preity Zinta.

Sunil Narine (KKR)

Sunil Narine continued his blitzkrieg with the bat and this time the victims were the Delhi Capitals. The Knight Riders veteran scored an 85 off just 39 balls as KKR beat DC by a mammoth 106 runs. The veteran is currently among the top 15 scorers in the league and is expected to create more mayhem in coming weeks.

Hit Team of the Week - Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR played only one game in the past seven days but showed their might with the massive win over Delhi Capitals. The Knights posted 272 runs in Vizag, the 2nd highest total in IPL's history. Then they backed it up with a decent bowling performance to bundle the Capitals for just 166 runs.

IPL 2024: Flops from Indian Premier League Week 2

Devdutt Padikkal (LSG)

Devdutt Padikkal's woes in the IPL 2024 continued with two underwhelming outings for LSG. The southpaw scored 9 and 6 against Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru respectively and is looking likely to be replaced in their upcoming match. He has looked out of ideas at the no. 3 position at LSG and only has 15 runs in three innings so far.

Mayank Agarwal (SRH)

Mayank Agarwal is another player who has endured a torrid time in this IPL. Amid all the brisk batting at SRH, the Indian opener failed to maintain the pace and faltered in the last two matches. His scores of 11 and 16 and a strike rate of around 110 in the last two matches saw him getting axed from the team in the CSK match.

Rashid Khan (GT)

Rashid Khan's impact on the Gujarat Titans team has been next to nothing in the first four matches of the season. He has picked up only 4 wickets in these matches and has been expensive (9.06 economy). The 25-year-old was taken to the cleaners by Punjab batters in the last match again. The Afghanistan star finds himself in the flop category this week, which doesn't happen often at all.

Flop Team of the Week - Chennai Super Kings

After two wins in the first two matches, Chennai Super Kings have found themselves losing two in the trot. Delhi Capitals dismantled them in Vizag, and then it was another humbling defeat at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad. MS Dhoni has shown his destructive self in patches, but the overall batting and the bowling in the last match weren't up to the CSK standards at all. They have missed the likes of Mustafizur Rahman and Matheesha Pathirana, but the five-time champions will have to get their act straight in the upcoming week.
