IPL 2024: The Hits and Flops from Indian Premier League Week 1| RCB, KKR Players Feature

The IPL 2024 has concluded its first full week and we have seen the teams playing at least two matches.

Defending champions Chennai Super Kings have made a rollicking start with two wins out of two, while Mumbai Indians have slumped to two defeats. It is also a good start for Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals - who have won their first two matches.

IPL 2024

The biggest news before the IPL was Hardik Pandya's move to MI and the subsequent leadership role. Also the departure of MS Dhoni as Chennai Super Kings captain rocked just before the start of the IPL 2024.

But across the last ten days, we have seen some big things emerging out of nowhere while many tested machinery have malfunctioned. We have seen the emergence of young and new talents, while the veterans have lost their plot. The beauty of IPL beholds here but we are about to dissect the Three Hits and Three Flops from the first Full week of the IPL 2024-

IPL 2024 Week 1: Three Biggest Hits

Mayank Yadav (LSG)

The Lucknow Super Giants' unearthed gem Mayank Yadav arrived in style in the IPL 2024 on Saturday (March 30). He made his debut in IPL and stole the show. Mayank Yadav picked up three wickets on debut, and clocked 150 kph and more constantly, bowling the fastest delivery of the IPL 2024 which was 155.8 kph. His pace was frightening, but what surprised more was the accuracy with the pace. Mayank bamboozled the Punjab batters and changed the dynamic of the match in his team's favour.

The Delhi-born player can be a real gem for the Indian team in future and is definitely the Biggest Hit of the first week. But consistency will be the key as the real test begins for him.

Virat Kohli (RCB)

Virat Kohli has started the IPL 2024 in magnificent fashion. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru stalwart is currently on top of the Orange Cap chart with 181 runs in three matches. Kohli played an outstanding knock against Punjab, followed by another stellar one against KKR. Although RCB lost two out of their three matches, Kohli definitely has all up his sleeves to star in the T20 format, contrary to recent beliefs.

Riyan Parag (RR)

Riyan Parag's reincarnation is something that has graced the IPL in these early stages. Parag has looked a different player altogether and has been brilliant for Rajasthan in the first two matches. He scored a brilliant 43 in the first match, but his real arrival came against Delhi Capitals, where he single-handedly powered the Royals to a superb score. Parag's reinvention is a massive positive for RR and Indian cricket. It is to be seen if he can continue doing the same.

IPL 2024 Week 2: Three Biggest Flops

Mitchell Starc (KKR)

KKR's record signing Mitchell Starc has disappointed immensely. The Australian pacer has travelled across the park and has an economy of 12.50 runs per over after first two matches. He was taken to the cleaners by Heinrich Klaasen in the first match, and Virat Kohli did the same in the RCB match.

The Rs. 24.75 crore price tag can be a hefty burden and the Australian will have to find a way to defy that and come up with the goods as the 2nd week commences.

Hardik Pandya (MI)

Hardik Pandya's dream return to Mumbai Indians turned into a nightmare in the first week. The new Mumbai captain lost both of their first two matches and got vehemently battered across the stadiums. He has still kept a smiling face and has stated the turnaround is near, but it has to happen now. The flock on the West Coast needs victories to settle down, otherwise, Pandya may face worse mutiny against him.

Faf du Plessis (RCB)

The Bengaluru fans have huge hopes for their captain Faf du Plessis, but the South African has failed to live up to that so far. In the first week, RCB played three matches and Du Plessis could only manage 46 runs, 35 of which came in the first match against Chennai Super Kings. His failure with the bat needs addressing as RCB play their next match against Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday.
