Player Of The Match
  • 59.2

OUT! Caught. Neil Wagner to Liton Das. Short, down leg side on the back foot pulling, mis-timed in the air under control to fine leg, by Boult.

Five for Neil Wagner. Carefully paddled around the corner without any placement and Boult gobbles up the catch. Bangladesh had capitulated after a start in which they were 120-1 and Tamim Iqbal went on to score a blistering century. Their short ball worries came to the fore and they looked like rabbits in the headlights as Wagner continued to attack them with the bouncer. Superb fightback from the Kiwis and now they have a chance to post a big score after watching the surface play very well and aid free flowing strokes.

  • 59.1

  • End of Over 59

  • 58.6

OUT! Bowled. Tim Southee to Khaled Ahmed. Out-swinging full toss, middle stump backing away defending, missed to. Khaled goes without troubling the scorers. Another tailender expecting the short ball and he was a long way away from his stumps as Southee went full and straight.

  • 57.2

FOUR! Neil Wagner to Liton Das. Short, down leg side on the back foot pulling, well timed in the air under control past fine leg for 4 runs, dropped catch by Boult, mis-fielded by Boult. Nine times out of 10 Trent Boult would be taking these. Possibly on his heels which meant he was late to the ball and had to put in the dive.

  • 56.5

OUT! Caught. Tim Southee to Abu Jayed. Short, outside off stump backing away Steer, top edge to wicketkeeper, by Watling. Jayed had no intention of getting in line with the short ball. • 55.6

Neil Wagner to Liton Das. Back of a length, down leg side on the back foot defending, to short leg for no runs, fielded by Nicholls.

  • 55.5

FOUR! Neil Wagner to Liton Das. Short, down leg side backing away pulling, well timed in the air under control past deep mid wicket for 4 runs. Time for Liton Das to throw the bat. He opens up the front leg and plays a tennis-style swat over midwicket.

  • 55.4

Neil Wagner to Abu Jayed. Short, down leg side on the back foot pulling, Gloved in the air uncontrolled to backward square leg for 1 run, fielded by Astle.

  • 55.3

Neil Wagner to Abu Jayed. Short, down leg side on the back foot defending, to silly point for no runs, fielded by Nicholls.

  • 55.2

OUT! Caught. Neil Wagner to Mehedi Hasan. Back of a length, down leg side on the back foot defending, Spliced in the air uncontrolled to short leg, by Nicholls.

And on the stroke of lunch Mehedi pops up a simple catch to Henry Nicholls at short leg. Neil Wagner lets out a roar of delight as he picks up his fourth to leave Bangladesh on the ropes at 217-7. It has definitely been New Zealand's session as they took five big scalps, including Tamim Iqbal who was on fire with the bat. After the good start Bangladesh will do well to reach 250 with only the tail left to come. A lot of pressure on Das' shoulders right now. New Zealand's openers will be starting to think about batting very soon.

  • 55.1

SIX! Neil Wagner to Mehedi Hasan. Short, down leg side on the back foot hooking, well timed in the air under control over fine leg for 6 runs. Paddled around the corner, using the bounce to generate the elevation to clear the rope.

  • End of Over 55

  • 54.4

Todd Astle to Liton Das. Leg spinner length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, to cover for no runs, fielded by Latham.

  • 54.3

Todd Astle to Liton Das. Googly length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, to short extra cover for no runs, fielded by Williamson.

  • 162.6

FOUR! Abu Jayed to Kane Williamson. Short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, well timed past fine leg for 4 runs. He's done it. Williamson swivels on the back foot and pulls the ball around the corner to bring up his double century. A marvellous innings and with that comes the declaration. 715-6 is what New Zealand end on and that is a new highest total for them in Tests, to go along with multiple records broken across the two days.
A daunting prospect ahead of Bangladesh as they trail by 481 runs with two and a half days play left. They have spent plenty of time out in the middle though and they should know that the pitch isn't offering that much to the bowlers. It will all come down to how fresh the top-order feeling, and if they can mentally apply themselves after a first innings collapse.

  • 159.5

SIX! Mehedi Hasan to Colin de Grandhomme. Off break length ball, outside off stump on the front foot slog sweeping, well timed in the air under control over deep mid wicket for 6 runs. • 158.4

SIX! Abu Jayed to Colin de Grandhomme. Leg cutter back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, well timed in the air under control over deep mid wicket for 6 runs. This might be out of the park. Attempted slower ball which is too short and it sits in the wicket asking to be put away. Colin de Grandhomme obliges.

Ebadat Hossain c BJ Watling b Tim Southee 0 (4)

OUT! Caught. Verified by umpire after REFERRAL. Tim Southee to Ebadat Hossain. Length ball, outside off stump backing away defending, outside edge to wicketkeeper, by Watling.
The faintest of edges through to Watling. Ebadat wasn't convinced but there was a spike as the ball passed the bat. With that catch BJ Watling moves to the top of the list of the most dismissals by a Kiwi keeper with 202.
New Zealand complete a comprehensive victory by an innings and 52 runs but they were made to work hard. Bangladesh scrapped hard today and the partnership between Mahmudullah and Soumya Sarkar was flourishing until the new ball turned the match on its head. Quick wickets then fell to Trent Boult who ended the innings with 5-123.
It has been a batsman's paradise at Seddon Park and we have seen six centuries including a superb double by the Kiwi captain. Not one for the bowlers and they will be hoping the next Test has a bit more in the wicket for them.
Plenty of positives for both sides to take out of the game and even though it looks a big loss Bangladesh can be proud of the fight they showed in the second innings. New Zealand go 1-0 up then in the series as we head to the Basin Reserve for the 2nd Test. Do join us then.

OUT! Caught. Tim Southee to Mahmudullah. Back of a length, outside off stump moves in front cutting, mis-timed in the air under control to deep backward point, by Boult. End of a marvellous innings.

APPEAL! Tim Southee to Khaled Ahmed. Length ball, off stump on the back foot defending, hit pad to point for no runs, fielded by Astle, appeal made for L.B.W.

Khaled is rapped on the pads but it's sliding down. The new ball did everything New Zealand would have hoped. Swing and movement off the pitch which brought some indecision into Sarkar's game and then Das was out trying to leave. Mahmudullah has played probably his greatest Test innings but it seems to be a matter of time before New Zealand wrap this up. Join us in 20 minutes.
