Patrick Brown to Daryl Mitchell. Short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to deep square leg for 2 runs, fielded by Gregory.
That was a pretty decent start to the tour for England, their fielding looked sharp and their bowling was skilful. Every time it looked like New Zealand were building momentum they lost a wicket, meaning they could never maintain a high scoring rate. With all the attention on the young lads today it was actually two experienced heads who stood out, Ross Taylor top scoring for the Kiwis and Chris Jordan snaring the best bowling figures for the visitors. Tim Southee will have to marshal his troops well in the second innings to defend that total.

OUT! Caught. Patrick Brown to Ross Taylor. Off cutter back of a length, outside off stump on the front foot pulling, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to deep mid wicket, by Bairstow. This is a big moment for Pat Brown, his first international wicket and it's a big one in Ross Taylor. Bairstow takes a very similar catch to the one Vince dropped in the previous over. England squeezing well, New Zealand look like they will end up under par in Christchurch.

SIX! Chris Jordan to Ross Taylor. Off cutter short, outside off stump on the front foot pulling, well timed in the air under control over deep square leg for 6 runs. That's a trademark Taylor swipe for his first six of the day. Already he is making England pay for the dropped chance.
Chris Jordan to Daryl Mitchell. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, to extra cover for 1 run, fielded by Morgan.
Chris Jordan to Ross Taylor. Off cutter length ball, outside off stump on the front foot Slog, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to deep mid wicket for 1 run, dropped catch by Vince. Grassed, that should've been taken. Vince saw it all the way but it popped out as he dived forward.

SIX! Chris Jordan to Daryl Mitchell. Full toss, down leg side on the front foot flick, well timed in the air under control over deep square leg for 6 runs. That's a really poor delivery to finish the over and Mitchell ruthlessly whips it over the fence. Black Caps building some momentum in these death overs.

APPEAL! Chris Jordan to Ross Taylor. Half volley, outside off stump on the front foot driving, missed to wicketkeeper for no runs, by Billings, appeal made for Caught. The bowler appeals but the keeper isn't interested, just like the umpire, however Jordan has convinced Morgan to belatedly go for a review. It's a hopeful one though and a waste because Taylor hit the ground not the ball.
SIX! Patrick Brown to Daryl Mitchell. Slower length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, well timed in the air under control over long off for 6 runs. Majestic stroke, waiting for the slower ball to arrive and then extending through it with the full face of the bat on display. New Zealand need plenty more of that.

England have taken a 1-0 lead in this five match T20I series against New Zealand thanks to a seven wicket victory in Christchurch. Their bowling set the game up, restricting the Black Caps to 153/5 with debutants Sam Curran and Pat Brown taking their maiden wickets. Ross Taylor and Daryl Mitchell added some late impetus, however James Vince was the star batsman of the day with a majestic 59 in the chase. He timed the ball better than anyone on a surface that turned out to be slightly slow, earning the player of the match award. He was visibly disappointed at his tame dismissal, the third of Mitchell Santner's victims in an impressive display from the left-arm spinner. It wasn't enough for the Kiwis though as the tourists cruised to the target with nine deliveries remaining. We'll be back for the Second T20I which is in Wellington on Sunday.
FOUR! Tim Southee to Eoin Morgan. Full toss, off stump on the front foot driving, past long off for 4 runs. Southee is so close to the perfect yorker and still the ball goes to the fence, not much he could've done better there. Santner put in a great effort but couldn't stop it getting past him.

OUT! Caught. Mitchell Santner to James Vince. Stock ball short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to deep mid wicket, by Guptill. What a way to go, maybe this is the moment of luck New Zealand need to drag themselves back into the contest. Santner serves up a juicy delivery and Vince can only swat it into the safe hands of Guptill. He's really frustrated with that, he's done all the hard work and can't see England over the line.
Mitchell Santner to Eoin Morgan. Stock ball back of a length, down leg side backing away cutting, to backward point for 1 run, fielded by Munro.
Tim Southee to Eoin Morgan. Off cutter back of a length, down leg side on the back foot pulling, bottom edge to short third man for 1 run, fielded by Sodhi.
