That was very much an innings of two halves. New Zealand dominated the first, chipping through the tame Pakistan top order courtesy of a combination of quality bowling and questionable strokeplay. Their fielding was magnificent, building pressure on the tourists and never allowing an easy single. At 141/7 it looked as though the result was already clear, but then Hasan Ali and Shadab Khan launched an impressive counter-attack to give the men in green half a chance. The Kiwis will require about five runs an over in the chase, so the visitors will have to be at their best with the ball.

What a comprehensive victory that turned out to be for New Zealand. Things were delicately poised when the rains came pouring down in Nelson, but the reduced overs situation allowed Martin Guptill to unleash with freedom and smash the Kiwis home. Earlier in the day there was an impressive bowling display from the hosts, all of their bowlers chipping in as Pakistan helped their own demise with some dodgy strokes. A counter-attacking fightback by Hasan Ali and Shadab Khan was entertaining but not enough for the visitors in the end. That means the Black Caps go 2-0 up in the series, leaving the tourists with it all to do in the remaining three matches.
