Commentary

  • End of Over 50
Over 50. 10 runs. Bowler: Marcus Stoinis. Pakistan: 271/8 (rr 5.42)
  • 49.6

Marcus Stoinis to Yasir Shah. Slower ball short, outside off stump backing away pulling, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to deep square leg for 1 run, fielded by Handscomb. Well I have to say that was a bizarre innings. Pakistan had two centurions in their run chase and yet they couldn't reach the target of 278. There was a real lack of composure from their batsmen which undid all the good work of Abid Ali and Rizwan. Abid Ali fell to a tired looking shot after a century on debut, however he will perhaps learn more about the international game from what happened after he departed than how events unfolded when he was at the crease. Australia continue to impress in this format and are heading towards the World Cup as genuine contenders when you consider the calibre of the players they still have to come back. Glenn Maxwell gets the man of the match award, emphasising the fact that centuries are worth little in a losing cause.

Usman Khan c Peter Handscomb b Marcus Stoinis 6 (2)

OUT! Caught. Marcus Stoinis to Usman Shinwari. Slower ball short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, top edge in the air uncontrolled to backward square leg, by Handscomb. Now it's dead. Stoinis went short again, taking the pace off and bowling it into the middle of the pitch. Shinwari took it on, the ball went up but not far enough and Handscomb took another catch on the legside boundary.

  • 49.4

SIX! Marcus Stoinis to Usman Shinwari. Slower length ball, outside off stump on the front foot Slog, well timed in the air under control over long off for 6 runs. Hello, that's an almighty blow from Shinwari, a couple more of those will see Pakistan over the line. The game is still alive.

  • 49.3

Marcus Stoinis to Yasir Shah. Slower ball short, outside off stump backing away pulling, mis-timed to long on for 1 run, fielded by Coulter-Nile.

  • 49.2
Mohammad Rizwan c Peter Handscomb b Marcus Stoinis 104 (102)

OUT! Caught. Marcus Stoinis to Mohammad Rizwan. Half volley, middle stump on the front foot flick, in the air uncontrolled to deep square leg, by Handscomb. That will be the match. Rizwan struck that well but he's picked out Handscomb in the deep. Mickey Arthur looks furious on the Pakistan balcony, how have Pakistan managed to make such a mess of this?

  • 49.2

Wide Marcus Stoinis to Mohammad Rizwan. Slower ball short, outside off stump Leave, Left to wicketkeeper for 1 run, fielded by Carey.

  • 49.1

  • 48.6

Kane Richardson to Mohammad Rizwan. Slower ball back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot driving, mis-timed to silly mid on for no runs, fielded by Richardson. Cramps him up and he can't get it beyond the bowler.

  • 48.5

FOUR! Kane Richardson to Mohammad Rizwan. Slower ball short, outside off stump down the track Slog, well timed in the air under control past long off for 4 runs. Well Pakistan need some more of those. Cracked down the ground and it doesn't quite carry all the way for six unfortunately for Pakistan.

  • 48.4

Kane Richardson to Mohammad Rizwan. Slower ball short, outside off stump backing away Slog, missed to wicketkeeper for no runs, fielded by Carey.

  • 48.3
Imad Wasim c Shaun Marsh b Kane Richardson 1 (5)

OUT! Caught. Kane Richardson to Imad Wasim. Slower ball short, down leg side backing away Slog, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to deep point, by Marsh. That's a poor shot and that's out. No leadership from Imad Wasim there, poor cricket from Pakistan. The pressure has got to their batsmen and they've cracked.

  • 48.2

Kane Richardson to Imad Wasim. Slower ball back of a length, down leg side backing away Slog, missed to wicketkeeper for no runs, fielded by Carey.

  • 48.1

Kane Richardson to Mohammad Rizwan. Back of a length, outside off stump on the front foot cutting, to deep cover for 1 run, fielded by Handscomb. Muted celebrations for Rizwan's century as it's starting to look more and more likely that his team will lose.

  • End of Over 48

  • 47.6

Nathan Coulter-Nile to Imad Wasim. Off cutter back of a length, down leg side backing away driving, to mid off for no runs, fielded by Lyon. Very impressive stuff from Coulter-Nile, now Pakistan need 22 from the last two overs.

  • 47.1
    Saad Ali c Kane Richardson b Nathan Coulter-Nile 7 (12)

OUT! Caught. Nathan Coulter-Nile to Saad Ali. Off cutter length ball, outside off stump on the front foot flick, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to mid wicket, by Richardson. Straight down the throat of Kane Richardson. Pace off the ball again from Coulter-Nile, he's done well since he's come back but this is his last over of the night. Is there another twist in this tale?

  • End of Over 47

  • 46.3

FOUR! Glenn Maxwell to Mohammad Rizwan. Off break length ball, down leg side on the front foot sweeping, well timed past fine leg for 4 runs. Well that shot has worked wonders for Rizwan all evening. Short fine leg had gone a little bit wider and Rizwan paddled it really fine, using the pace of the delivery.

  • 46.2

Glenn Maxwell to Mohammad Rizwan. Off break length ball, down leg side on the front foot sweeping, to deep backward square leg for 2 runs, fielded by Richardson.

  • 45.6

Nathan Coulter-Nile to Mohammad Rizwan. Slower ball half volley, outside off stump on the front foot driving, to point for no runs, run save by Maxwell. The run rate just creeps again for Pakistan. They aren't quite as far on with this chase currently as they would like.
