Profile

Luke Wood is an English cricketer known for his sharp left-arm fast medium bowling and handy skills as a lower-order batter. Born on 2 August 1995 in Sheffield, he worked his way through the local age group systems before breaking into professional cricket. He officially started his professional journey when he made his first-class debut for Nottinghamshire against Sussex in September 2014. From a young age, his ability to swing the new ball and hurry batters with his skiddy pace made him a standout prospect in the English domestic circuit.

After a few years of building his reputation, his career gained major momentum in the early 2020s when he became a highly sought-after player in franchise leagues. In April 2022, he was bought by the Trent Rockets for the summer season. His ability to handle pressure was evident during the BPL 2022-23 season with the Sylhet Strikers. In a high-stakes Qualifier 2 match, he delivered a brilliant penultimate over where he gave away just 3 runs, which successfully pushed his team into the tournament final.

His consistent domestic performances naturally opened the door to international cricket in 2022. He was first named in the England ODI squad for a series against the Netherlands in May of that year. A few months later in September, he earned a spot in the T20 squad for the tour of Pakistan. He made his T20 international debut on 20 September 2022 against Pakistan and impressed immediately. He followed this up by making his ODI debut against Australia on 17 November 2022.

As his reputation as a white ball specialist grew, more franchise opportunities came calling around the world. On 18 March 2024, he secured a major contract when he was signed by the Mumbai Indians in the IPL as a replacement for the injured Jason Behrendorff. Alongside his global franchise commitments, he maintained his roots in English club cricket. On 21 March 2025, it was announced that he had been signed by Woodhall Spa Cricket Club in the Lincolnshire Premier League to play whenever he was free from his professional white-ball duties.

Since the start of 2025, Wood has found a second wind to his international career as he established himself as a senior white-ball bowler for England. In the summer of 2025, he made a memorable return against the West Indies by taking a wicket on the very first ball of the match. He then played a vital role in the T20 and ODI series against New Zealand later that year. By early 2026, he was representing the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League and was chosen to play for England in the 2026 T20 World Cup, proving his enduring value on the global stage.
