Mahedi Hasan is an off-spin bowling all-rounder representing Bangladesh. Born in Khulna, Mahedi came up the ranks through junior cricket and made his first-class debut in 2015 for Khulna Division in the National Cricket League. A year later, in 2016, he made his maiden white-ball appearances with Gazi Group Cricketers in the List A format and Barisal Bulls in the T20 format. He could not impress much on his T20 debut but made everyone take notice with an impressive hundred on his List A debut while batting at number 3. However, he did not manage to get an instant call to the Bangladesh side and had to wait patiently for his opportunity. In 2018, he received his maiden T20I cap during the home series against Sri Lanka. Although he could not play a big role on his debut, he was in Bangladesh’s scheme of things as far as the white-ball setup was concerned. Due to his stellar showing in the List A and T20 formats, Mahedi was named in the Bangladesh squad for the ODI series in New Zealand. It was a tour to forget for Bangladesh, as they failed to win even a single game across both white-ball formats. Mahedi Hasan ended the T20I series as Bangladesh’s highest wicket taker, and he was the silver lining for the visitors. Since his debut at the international level, he has featured more in the T20I format, and was also part of the Bangladesh squad that won the gold medal in the 2019 South Asian Games. When it comes to his experience in the franchise leagues, Mahedi has been a part of the Khulna Tigers, Rangpur Riders, and Comilla Victorians in the Bangladesh Premier League. Mahedi made his ODI debut against New Zealand in 2021, but did not really make the impact that made in T20Is. He was named in the Bangladesh squad for the 2021 World Cup. However, his hard work and determination paid off when he was selected for the 2023 ODI World Cup. The following year, he played in he 2024 T20 World Cup for his country. Later that year, he played an important role in defeating West Indies 3-0 in an away T20I series, bagging 8 wickets in three games and earning the player of the series award.
