Profile

Steve Smith is one of the modern-day batting greats in world cricket and plays for Australia in all three formats. The supremely-talented - who started his international career batting in the middle-order - quickly moved up in the ranks on the back of good effort with the bat and gradually cemented his position in the Aussie top-order.Smith made his Australia with T20Is in February 2010 against Pakistan. His ODI debut came against West Indies in the same month. A few months later, Smith got the Baggy Green - the Test cap - against Pakistan at Lord's in the English summer of 2010. While his figures in ODIs and T20Is look decent, but the right-handed batter's performance in the red-ball format has been 'Bradmanesque'. His unorthodox batting stance and antics in the crease make his batting a treat to watch. When Smith is set, there's no better batter of the red-ball in the world as he plays all kinds of shots. He has the third best Test average till date and has been a bowler's nightmare. The ease with which he plays pacers and spinners make him a dangerous batter and he has scored runs on even the toughest of pitches. His knock of 109 on a rank-turner in Pune during the 2016-17 Border Gavaskar Trophy in India will be regarded as one of the best knocks from an overseas batters ever.In the 2018 sandpaper gate scandal during the Cape Town Test in South Africa, Smith was suspended from all forms of cricket. In his comeback to Test cricket in the next year's Ashes in England, Smith defied the jeers and boos from the English crowd and slammed three centuries, including a double ton, to help Australia retain the Urn. Smith was almost unbeatable during that series and despite missing a Test due to concussion, he emerged as the leading run-scorer in the five-Tests. Smith's contribution to world cricket has been immense and he will certainly go down as one of the greatest batters of all-time.
