Commentary
Rahul Tewatia hit two back-to-back sixes on the final two deliveries and guided Gujarat Titans to a sensational 6 wicket win over Punjab Kings.
In a last-over thriller, with 12 required off the last two balls, the left-handed batter showed nerves of steel and smashed Odean Smith out of the park and handed his team a third consecutive win.
With 19 required from the final over, Gujarat pinned their hopes on captain Hardik Pandya but he was run out on the first ball of the final over while trying to retain the strike. Pandya scored 27 off 18. But Tewatia took his team home in style.
Shubman Gill once again proved why he's termed as a superstar in the making as he scored 96 off 59 balls.
After scoring a match-winning 84 in the last game, Gill impressed with his performance once again fell four short of his maiden IPL century. The right-handed batter was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada in the penultimate over.
Along with debutant Sai Sudharsan - who scored a superb 35 off 30 balls - Gill shared a partnership of 101 runs for the second wicket.
Earlier in the day, Liam Livingstone - who was the most expensive foreign player of this edition - lived up to his reputation and notched up his second consecutive fifty off just 21 deliveries.
Punjab's senior opener Shikhar Dhawan scored a valuable 35 and shared a 52-run partnership with Livingstone.
Livingstone scored 64 off just 27 balls and the lower order hit some lusty blows in the death overs to help Punjab Kings post a respectable 189 for 9 in the 20 overs after being put in to bat first. Rashid Khan returned with figures of 3/22 from his quota of 4 overs for Gujarat.
With this win, Gujarat now jump to the second spot in the points table with 6 points in their kitty. While Punjab remain static at the sixth spot with 4 points.
