Bangladesh have ended their losing streak with a victory over Sri Lanka in the ICC World Cup 2023 match on Monday (November 6) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
With this, Sri Lanka are officially eliminated from the tournament, while Bangladesh are already ousted. The victory is a significant one though for the Tigers as they leapfrog Sri Lanka to 7th in the table.

Sri Lanka managed to scored 279 runs after batting first. Charith Asalanka scored a brilliant hundred while Sadeera Samarawickrama and Pathum Nissanka also made considerable contributions. But the headline was Angelo Mathews' time-out dismissal, which made him the first in international cricket's history to get dismissed like that.
Bangladesh had a poor start as they lost openers Tanzid Hasan (9) and Litton Das (23) early. But a terrific partnership from Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan took the game away from Sri Lanka. The Tigers duo stitched 169 runs for the 3rd wicket as Bangladesh inched closer towards their second victory.
Despite the pair getting out in quick succession, Mahmudullah and Towhid Hridoy saw the game through as they won with almost nine overs to spare.
Player of the Match: Shakib Al Hasan (BAN) for his brilliant all-around performance. The Bangladesh skipper scored 82 runs with the bat and also picked up 2 wickets with the ball.

Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh Captain): They are two important players (Mendis and Samarawickrama), lucky to get those two wickets., There wasn't much for the bowlers, we bowled really well upfront. Both Spinners bowled really well. Bowling makes us win more matches.
We couldn't live up to our expectations but we knew that we can fight back, we had that mentality. We kept believe and it paid off today. The ground dimension helped as well, the shorter boundary, there was a lot of pace on the ball, so I just had to use the pace, luckily it came off and from there on I never looked back. (Best performance came a little late?) I'd agree with that, we could have been consistent, that's one disappointment.
Kusal Mendis (Sri Lanka Captain): Charith played a brilliant knock. But we were 30-40 runs short. Happy that some good young players coming through, and happy we have shown some promise in this tournament. In the future we'll have a good team. We had injuries and made mistakes. Had we played better cricket, we would've had a better chance.
(On Angelo Mathews Wicket) It's very disappointing - when Angelo came to the crease, there were 5 seconds left. Then he found out the strap of the helmet came off. It's disappointing that umpires couldn't step in and make the correct decision.
