OUT! Caught. Kagiso Rabada to James Anderson. Back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot pushing, outside edge in the air uncontrolled to first slip, by van der Dussen. Anderson out and England are 269 all out. Short one from Rabada and Anderson flirts with the ball and feathers it to first slip who takes the easy catch. England will have been targeting at least 300 on this deck when the won the toss yesterday, so this score is going to be tough to defend. Early wickets with the new ball are key, because the older ball didn't do much for South Africa yesterday.

Stumps on day one, England get to 262 for 9 after a late batting collapse sees five wickets fall in the session. Another session dominated by South Africa, they need just one more wicket to get in to bat on what is a fairly flat wicket. England take a lead going into their second innings, what a bowling display, one big partnership, the rest of the batters never got going. Superb bowling from the visitors, they lead South Africa by 46 runs going into their second innings. Not much in this pitch, a true line and length from England was key to limit runs, then the odd one would seam or swing which caused the South Africans problems.

OUT! Caught. James Anderson to Kagiso Rabada. Seaming away length ball, outside off stump on the front foot defending, outside edge in the air uncontrolled to wicketkeeper, by Buttler. Welcome to the third day of the second test between South Africa and England at Newlands. England played well yesterday to get South Africa eight down at stumps, South Africa in need of runs today because this pitch will show signs of wear going into their second batting innings, which will make it tough to improve on the score they get in their first innings. Another big day for their seamers as well, they need early wickets when England bat to put the pressure back on England, the good thing for England is that time isn't an issue in this game, so the openers can take it slow if they need. A big day of cricket ahead for both teams, today should really give us a good idea of which team is in the driving seat with both teams still in this one at the start of day three. First ball! Rabada goes for a golden! Anderson with a beauty to start the day, seaming away from the left-hander, gets him to poke at one and Buttler takes the catch, England one wicket away now.

  • 84.4

OUT! Caught. James Anderson to Keshav Maharaj. Length ball, outside off stump on the back foot defending, inside edge in the air uncontrolled to gully, by Sibley. Maharaj out, and that wicket brings an end to day two which has been England's, after a tough second session, England manage to get back into this one and leave South Africa on 215 for 8 at the close of play. Quality bowling display from all the bowlers, the one bowler that really impressed was Dom Bess who kept his line and length tight when the ball wasn't spinning to tie up one end, he gave the seamers a rest and kept the pressure on South Africa. A lot of work to do for South Africa who still trail England by 54 runs going into day three.

  • 84.3

  • 110.6

Keshav Maharaj to Stuart Broad. Stock length ball, outside off stump on the front foot slog sweeping, in the air under control to mid on for 2 runs, fielded by van der Dussen. 391 declared, England lead South Africa by 437 runs, Sibley with the big contribution of 133, Stokes at the start of the day with a quick fire 72, they have given England a great chance of winning this one. As mentioned before, this deck is flat, England will need to do very well to get early wickets because once this ball gets soft, it will be tough for them to pick up wickets.

FOUR! Keshav Maharaj to Dominic Sibley. Stock length ball, down leg side on the front foot reverse sweeping, well timed past third man for 4 runs. Reverse sweep for four, Sibley looking to attack now, England look like they will declare soon, so quick runs are key for Sibley and Broad.
