Virat Kohli earns Rs 8 crore for MRF ad on his bat, rakes in Rs 2 crore more than MS Dhoni

New Delhi, Mar 21: Team India's swashbuckling batsman Virat Kohli is ruling the cricketing arena with his consistent match winning performances and is therefore raking in the moolah for his willow.

Kohli, who is already the highest paid cricketer in the IPL, may still lag behind in terms of brand endorsements to his limited-overs captain MS Dhoni but Team India's Test skipper has left Dhoni behind in raking the moolah from his bat. (WT20 schedule)

As per a TOI report, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper, who uses an MRF bat, gets around Rs 8 crore for putting the sticker on his bat while Dhoni earns around Rs 6 crore to put a Spartan sticker on his willow. (IPL crore club: Salary details of Kohli, Dhoni and others revealed)

When it comes to off-field brand endorsements such as TV ads, Dhoni surges ahead with Rs 8 crore while Kohli pockets around Rs 5 crore."Dhoni, Yuvraj and Kohli are the players who can get merchandise to move off the shelves," a CEO of a large sportswear firm was quoted by the news daily as saying.

Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma earn Rs 2.5-3 crore and Rs 3 crore respectively for sporting Ceat stickers on their bats, while Ajinkya Rahane is paid around Rs 1.5 crore for his bat footwear and apparel together.

Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan, whose bat is sponsored by MRF, rakes in around Rs 3 crore.

Earlier this year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the salary details of Indian Premier League's (IPL) top cricketers including national team captains Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni.

Ahead of the new season in 2016, the Indian cricket board, on its website, listed out how much money is paid to some of the leading cricketers retained by the IPL franchises. Kohli is the highest paid Indian player with a pay cheque of Rs 15 crore. BCCI announced salary details of 23 cricketers.

Kohli, India's Test skipper, leads Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL. Dhoni, who will play for Pune this year, gets Rs 12.5 crore.

Kohli's RCB team mate and West Indies' explosive opener Chris Gayle earns Rs 8.4 crore. South African batsman AB de Villiers, also of RCB, gets Rs 9.5 crore.

Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir receives Rs 10 crore.
