  • West Indies are looking to register their first men’s Test series victory over Sri Lanka since 2003; the Lions are currently enjoying a five-series unbeaten streak against them across their subsequent encounters (W2 D3).
  • Sri Lanka have only suffered one defeat in their last eight men’s Test matches versus West Indies (W3 D4); this will be the first encounter between the sides in this format in almost three years, however.
  • West Indies beat Bangladesh in both games during their recent two-game men’s Test series last month; they are looking to register three victories on the bounce in this format for the first time since putting together a six-match streak between July 2012 and March 2013.
  • West Indies are set to play a men’s Test match on home soil for the first time in over 18 months, their most recent such outing coming against India in 2019 at Sabina Park (August 30-September 2); they have tasted defeat in their last three home games in succession ahead of this contest, those losses coming by margins of 232, 318 and 257 runs.
  • Sri Lanka are currently enduring a four-game losing streak in men’s Tests; their longest such run since tasting defeat in five straight fixtures during 1994.
  • West Indies have logged 30 referrals as the bowling side in men’s Test cricket since the start of last year, overturning the original only once in that time (3% success rate) – losing a review on 18 of those occasions.
  • Lasith Embuldeniya is five scalps away from reaching 50 in Test cricket; he has picked up more Test wickets than any other left-arm spinner since making his debut in February 2019 (45).
  • Shannon Gabriel (West Indies) claimed his best first-class innings figures against Sri Lanka (8/62 in June 2018); only on one other occasion has a West Indies bowler taken more wickets in a Test innings (Jack Noreiga, 9/95 v India in 1971).
  • Angelo Mathews (Sri Lanka) has been dismissed by Jason Holder on more occasions than any other West Indies bowler in Test cricket, getting out to him in all four innings he has faced the all-rounder – posting just 10 runs in response.
  • Angelo Mathews (6,194) requires 168 to become Sri Lanka’s fourth-highest Test run-scorer (surpassing Aravinda de Silva’s 6,361) whilst Kraigg Brathwaite is 124 away from becoming the 16th man to reach 4,000 Test runs for West Indies.
