In yesterday's World Cup 2023 match, India defeated New Zealand by four wickets to stay unbeaten in the tournament. India on Sunday, October 22, chased down the 274-run target at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala with two overs to spare to register their first win over New Zealand in an ICC event since 2003.
Virat Kohli mastered another run-chase for India and scored 95 runs off 104 balls. Ravindra Jadeja also stepped up in the absence of Hardik Pandya and an unfortunate run out dismissal of Suryakumar Yadav (2 off 4), scoring 39 unbeaten runs off 44 balls and finishing off the match with a boundary.

Captain Rohit Sharma scored another handy knock of 46 runs from 40 balls and his opening stand with Shubman Gill (26) accounted for 71 runs. Both the batters were dismissed by Lockie Ferguson. Shreyas Iyer hit six boundaries en route to his 29-ball 33. KL Rahul scored 27 off 35 before getting trapped by Mitchell Santner.
Earlier in the day, Mohammed Shami - who was playing his first match of the World Cup 2023 - spoiled New Zealand's party after a 159-run partnership between Rachin Ravindra (75) and Daryl Mitchell (130) for the third wicket. New Zealand lost two early wickets but then found themselves cruising at 178/2 in 33.2 over.
But once Shami got rid of Ravindra, New Zealand lost the plot. Kuldeep Yadav (2/73) was costly but capitalised on the gate opened by Shami and picked the wickets of Tom Latham (5) and Glenn Phillips (23).
Jasprit Bumrah (1/45) dismissed Mark Chapman (6) before Shami clean bowled Mitchell Santner (1) and Matt Henry (0) on consecutive deliveries and then got the wicket of Daryl Mitchell in the last over to complete his second World Cup five-fer. Lockie Ferguson got run out on the final ball of the 50th over as New Zealand were bundled out for 273.
Scores: New Zealand: 273 all-out in 50 overs (Daryl Mitchell 130, Rachin Ravindra 75; Mohammed Shami 5/54). India: 274/6 in 48 overs ( Virat Kohli 95, Rohit Sharma 46; Lockie Ferguson 2/63).
