  • This will be the fifth men’s Test between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan, with Afghanistan going unbeaten in each of their last three clashes (W2 D1); Zimbabwe’s sole win against them came in their first ever clash – by 10 wickets in March 2021.
  • Zimbabwe have lost 14 of their last 17 men’s Tests (W1 D2), including each of the last six on the bounce; the last time the Chevrons went on a longer losing streak in the format was a stretch of 10 losses between August 2014 and October 2017.
  • Afghanistan won their most recent men’s Test (by 72 runs vs Zimbabwe in January 2025), snapping a four-game winless run in the format (D1 L3); they will be aiming to win back-to-back Tests for just the second time after registering two consecutive wins between March and September in 2019.
  • Zimbabwe are winless in each of their last eight men’s Tests at the Harare Sports Club (D1 L7), last registering a win at the venue in September 2013 (vs Pakistan); this will be their first clash against Afghanistan at the venue.
  • Afghanistan have logged a batting good connection rate of 69.6% in men’s Tests since the start of 2024, the second highest by any side (Sri Lanka – 69.7%) and over six percentage points more than Zimbabwe (63.2%).
  • Zimbabwe have logged a collective batting average of 22.2 in men’s Tests since the start of 2024, the second lowest of all sides after West Indies (19.5); on the other hand, Afghanistan (49.7) have the lowest collective batting strike rate among all sides during this period.
  • Craig Ervine (1926 runs) is 74 away from becoming the seventh Zimbabwe batter to score 2,000+ runs in men’s Tests; however, Ervine has scored just 456 runs at an average of 28.5 over his 16 innings in the format this year, scoring 50+ runs in just two of those innings.
  • Hashmatullah Shahidi (85 boundary fours) is 15 away from becoming the second Afghanistan batter to hit 100+ fours in men’s Tests after Rahmat Shah (117); in fact, he has hit 10+ boundaries in an innings in the format on just two occasions – both against Zimbabwe (21 fours in each).
  • Blessing Muzarabani has picked up 36 wickets in men’s Tests in 2025, the most by a Zimbabwe bowler in a single calendar year in the format; in fact, he has failed to pick up a wicket in just one of his 13 innings in the format this year.
  • Brian Bennett has registered three 50+ scores in men’s Tests in 2025, the joint second most by any Zimbabwe batter behind Sean Williams (5); however, he has been dismissed for a duck in each of his last two innings in the format.
