Smith began playing volleyball in grade nine of high school. His initial interest in sports was sparked by watching his parents play in an open gym. Although he initially played soccer, he soon realised that volleyball was his true calling. His height and skills led him to pursue volleyball seriously.

Smith is married to Kelli and has two children: Cohen, born in 2012, and Amelie Aida, born in 2018. He holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Irvine. Despite his busy career, Smith enjoys spending time with his family.

Achievements and Awards

One of Smith's most memorable achievements is winning bronze at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. He was named 2017 Male Indoor Player of the Year by USA Volleyball. In 2009, he was recognised as the Best Blocker at the NORCECA qualifying tournament for the World Championship.
