Ange Postecoglou experienced a tough setback as Tottenham let a two-goal advantage slip, resulting in a 4-3 defeat to Chelsea. Early goals from Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski, capitalising on Marc Cucurella's errors, put Tottenham ahead within 11 minutes at their home ground. Jadon Sancho responded with a goal in the 17th minute, but Tottenham struggled under pressure in the second half.
Two penalties scored by Cole Palmer, along with Enzo Fernandez's powerful strike, turned the game in Chelsea's favour. Despite Son Heung-min scoring late for Tottenham, they faced their second loss in three days following a previous defeat to Bournemouth. Postecoglou noted the contrasting performances between these matches.

"It's a sore one for sure, it's painful," Postecoglou told Sky Sports. "We started the game really well and then we lose Cristian Romero and we had to reshuffle. We still had some big moments to get a third and finish it off." The manager highlighted the impact of losing key players early in the match.
Yves Bissouma's foul on Moises Caicedo led to Chelsea's first penalty, while Pape Sarr was penalised for his challenge on Palmer for the second spot-kick. Tottenham felt aggrieved by Caicedo's continued presence on the pitch after a VAR review of his first-half tackle on Sarr that could have warranted a red card.
Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero returned for Sunday's clash, but Romero had to leave after just 15 minutes. Van de Ven also exited later due to tightness. "He felt a bit tight," Postecoglou said about Van de Ven. "Hopefully it's not too bad because you could see the difference."
Postecoglou expressed hope that Romero's injury isn't severe but acknowledged squad depth issues. "We're thin on numbers and if we're thin in January, we'll be looking to add to the squad because they need some help," he added.
This match marked Tottenham's 11th Premier League loss after leading by two or more goals—four more than any other team in league history. It was their first such home defeat since September 2001 against Manchester United.
Son Heung-min shared Postecoglou’s frustration but took responsibility for missing a crucial chance when it was 2-2 against Robert Sanchez. "It's very disappointing," Son told Sky Sports. "I don't know what to say at the moment."
"We can't concede goals like this," Son continued. "We can't dive into this situation." He emphasised sticking together during tough times and called for strong support from fans as young players need encouragement more than ever.
In Postecoglou’s tenure over 53 Premier League games, both teams scored in 36 matches (68%). Only Ossie Ardiles' games had a higher ratio (69%) among managers with over 50 matches in league history.
