Gabrielle Douglas Biography

Gabrielle started her gymnastics career at Buckeye Gymnastics Club in Westerville, OH, USA. She has been coached by Kittia Carpenter since 2014 and Martha Karolyi at the national level. Her international debut came in 2008 at the International Tournament in Houston, TX, USA, representing the United States.

Challenges and Achievements

In 2011, an injured hamstring kept Gabrielle from training during the spring and summer. Despite this setback, she was named the 2012 Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year. Her sporting philosophy is encapsulated in her motto: "Never doubt. Only believe."

Coaching Changes

After a nine-month break following the 2012 Olympic Games in London, Gabrielle returned to training under coach Liang Chow in May 2013. She relocated to Los Angeles two months later but returned to train under Chow in April 2014. When business negotiations broke down with Chow in July 2014, she found a new coach in Kittia Carpenter.
