Vithya Ramraj Biography

At the 2022 Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, Vithya secured a bronze medal in the 400m hurdles on October 3. Additionally, she qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Her achievements have brought significant recognition to Indian athletics.

Background and Early Life

Vithya hails from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Her father works as a truck driver, while her mother Meena is a homemaker. She has an identical twin sister, Nithya, who is also an athlete. Vithya is employed with Indian Railways.

The twins initially played hockey before their mother enrolled them in Erode Girls Sports School for Class 7. Vithya pursued her BBA degree from Kongu Arts and Science College, Erode, from 2016 to 2019 on a sports scholarship provided by the KVIT Trust, Perundurai. The college management and faculty supported her athletic career.

Transition to Hurdles

Until 2017, Vithya participated in the 100m and 200m sprint events but later shifted her focus to the 400m hurdles. Despite this shift, she continues to compete in both the 400m and the 100m events.

2023 Competitions

In 2023, Vithya participated in several tournaments:

  • 15-17 May: Competed in the 100m and 100m hurdles at Birsa Munda Football Stadium, Morabadi, Ranchi (IND).
  • 17 June: Took part in the 4 × 100 m relay at the Indian Championships held at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneshwar (IND).
  • 13 July: Competed in the 100m hurdles at the Asian Athletics Championships at Supachalasai National Stadium, Bangkok (THA).
  • 30 July: Participated in the 4 × 400 m relay and the mixed relay at Mahinda Rajapaksha Stadium, Diyagama (SRI).
  • 10-11 September: Competed in the 400m and 400m hurdles at Indian Grand Prix 5 held in Chandigarh (IND).
