Player Of The Match
  • 116.4

OUT! Caught. Josh Hazlewood to Stuart Broad. Short, down leg side backing away pulling, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to deep backward square leg, by Handscomb.

Broad swats the ball out to the deep but this time the catch is taken. It's Handscomb out at deep square leg who runs around and makes the catch looks relatively simple.

Australia have done exactly what they would have wanted after bowling out England in the first session. Malan and Ali were beginning to put together a nice partnership this morning but once the former fell the rest of the batsmen went quite easily. The pitch hasn't been that easy to find your timing though so the new ball could be crucial for both teams at the start of the afternoon session and England passing 300 might be vital.

  • 116.3

  • 115.5

FOUR! Mitchell Starc to Stuart Broad. Short, down leg side backing away pulling, well timed in the air under control past deep mid wicket for 4 runs. 300 up for England. Broad is onto the short delivery. He knows which length every ball is going to be which makes it easier for him if the ball is slightly fuller and below the shoulder.

  • 115.4

FOUR! Mitchell Starc to Stuart Broad. Short, down leg side backing away pulling, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled past deep square leg for 4 runs, dropped catch by Marsh, mis-fielded by Marsh. A life for Broad. He skies the ball straight up but Marsh never got settled under the catch. To rub salt into the wounds the ball bounces off his head and runs to the rope.

FOUR! Pat Cummins to James Anderson. Short, down leg side backing away pulling, top edge in the air uncontrolled past third man for 4 runs. Extravagant from Jimmy. Jumps to the legside and swipes the bat across the line. Fortunate that the edge flew over the slips but he won't mind.

OUT! Caught. Mitchell Starc to Jake Ball. Back of a length, off stump on the back foot flick, mis-timed to leg slip, by Warner. The change to Mitchell Starc pays off in the first over. Ball will be gutted after he whipped the ball beautifully off his hip but unfortunately he picked out David Warner who was hiding around the corner. The players will stay on for an extra half an hour since England are nine down.

  • 111.5

FOUR! Nathan Lyon to Jake Ball. Off break length ball, outside off stump on the back foot driving, well timed past deep backward point for 4 runs. What a shot. Transfers the weight onto the back foot and punches the delivery through the off side. Shot of the morning.

  • 130.3

OUT! Caught. Joe Root to Nathan Lyon. Off break length ball, down leg side on the front foot glancing, mis-timed to leg slip, by Cook.

The England captain finishes off the innings with his handy off spin. Lyon clips it off his pad but straight to the man hiding just around the corner.

The day has belonged to Steve Smith after he batted all day and finished unbeaten on 141. It has been topsy-turvy cricket with neither team dominating the game. Australia though have a lead of 26 and going into the third innings that could prove crucial.

OUT! Caught. Pat Cummins to Jake Ball. Bouncer, down leg side on the back foot Fended, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to third man, by Handscomb.

How quickly this game has changed. At one point Moeen Ali and Jonny Bairstow were batting England into a solid position but one wicket fell and the rest went like skittles. The short ball barrage from Australia easily cleaned up the tail which was reminiscent of the first innings and is exactly what the papers predicted before the first ball was bowled.

The hosts will require 170 to win when they come out to bat and England will need to bowl incredibly well to win this match.

  • 70.5

OUT! Caught. NOT OUT changed by umpire to OUT after REFERRAL. Mitchell Starc to Stuart Broad. Half volley, outside off stump no foot movement defending, outside edge to wicketkeeper, by Paine. Well this is a strange one. Only Tim Paine appeals but Smith decides he might as well ask for the review. We might be seeing this overturned. There is a tiny mark on Hot Spot and snicko seems to suggest an edge as the ball passes the bat. Broad is not convinced though and neither is the on-field umpire.

  • 70.4

OUT! Caught. Mitchell Starc to Jonny Bairstow. Short, outside off stump on the back foot cutting, mis-timed in the air under control to third man, by Handscomb. Jonny Bairstow what have you done? Final over before tea and the trap is set for the short ball. Starc obliges but at the last second Bairstow decides he can help it down to third man. He must not have seen the fly slip though as the ball goes straight to him.

Starc hasn't been at his best today but he still has the pace and bounce which can trouble batsmen. Woakes tried to ride the bumper but he couldn't get his hands high enough to keep it down. Simple catch for the captain at second slip.

  • 49.6

FOUR! Chris Woakes to Cameron Bancroft. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, well timed in the air under control past long off for 4 runs.

Drilled back down the ground and a pump of the fists from Bancroft after he hits the winning runs in his first Ashes Test. This pair have broken the record for the highest unbeaten opening stand in a successful Test chase. Australia come out as victors by ten wickets after four and a bit hard-fought days in which nobody really knew who was going to win until the very end.

England have a few issues to look at, their lack of potency with the ball on a flat wicket and the batsmen's struggles with the short ball. As well as the way the tail are being blown away so comfortably. The hosts though also have a couple of issues going into the second Test with their number three a problem and the reliance on Steve Smith who was superb once again in this match.

All eyes now move to the next Test which is a day/night affair at Adelaide, England will be looking forward to the prospect of the pink ball and the movement which should come with it. See you then.
