  • The last five men’s ODI clashes between England and Australia have seen the winner alternate, Australia’s loss in the 2nd ODI means they still haven’t won back to back ODIs against England since 2015. Victory in the second match of this series leaves England in the hunt for a third consecutive bilateral men’s ODI series win against Australia – a feat that have not previously managed in the format (excluding one-off matches). Australia will be out to avoid a seventh loss in their last nine bilateral men’s ODI series away from; their last win in such a series came against Pakistan in the UAE in March 2019 (5-0). Australia were forced to bat second after losing the toss in the second match of this ODI series against England; they’ve gone on to execute a successful chase in just one of their last six ODIs when they’ve batted second on the day. England will be looking to clinch a 10th consecutive victory in a bilateral men’s ODI series on home soil; the last time they lost such a series was in 2015 against Australia (3-2). Adil Rashid (99) and Chris Woakes (99) are both in line to bowl in their 100th ODI innings for England; Woakes (147) needs three wickets to become the sixth player to take 150 scalps in men’s ODIs for England, he has three five-fers to his name in the format, more than any other man for England. Eoin Morgan (England) scored 42 runs in the 2nd ODI of this series, becoming the most prolific run scorer at Old Trafford in the format with a tally of 433; only at Trent Bridge (24) has he hit more ODI sixes than he has at Old Trafford (20). Adam Zampa (Australia) has taken a series-high seven wickets through the opening two games at an average of just 13 – it’s his best ever average in a multi-game ODI series, only twice has an Australian spinner taken more in a men’s ODI series against England (Nathan Hauritz 9 in 7 games in 2009, Steve Smith 8 in 6 games in 2011). Jos Buttler is the only England player to have been dismissed within the first 20 balls he’s faced in both ODIs so far this series (1 from 4 balls, 3 from 7 balls); he’s not gone three consecutive ODIs without reaching double figures since 2017. Josh Hazlewood (Australia) has bowled a series-high 90 dot balls from his 120 deliveries; in fact, he’s finished three of his last four ODIs with a dot ball percentage above 70% after having done so only once in 16 ODIs prior.
