  • This is only the third multi-game bilateral T20I series between New Zealand and India; the record stands at one series victory apiece, whoever wins this match will record their second bilateral series victory in such encounters.
  • India are currently enjoying an unbeaten run in bilateral T20I series (2+ games) stretching back to August 2016, a streak of nine such series unbeaten (W7 D2).
  • India have taken on New Zealand 10 times before in T20I cricket; winning only three of them (L7), all those victories coming in their last five outings however (L2).

  • Rohit Sharma (India) registered a half-century in the previous match of this series (Eden Park); as a result of that knock, he became the all-time leading T20I run-scorer (2,288).
  • Tim Southee (New Zealand) needs one more scalp to become the outright 6th highest ranking bowler for most T20I wickets taken, going clear of Afghanistan's Mohammad Nabi (67); he took 3/17 in Wellington against India but did fail to pick one up in Auckland however.
  • Tim Southee has collected three wickets so far for New Zealand in this T20I series against India, all of them have come from short balls; in fact, he has managed to pick up a dismissal with 33% of his short-length deliveries (three of nine) compared to no wickets from his other 40 balls thus far.
