That is the end of a brilliant innings from South Africa. To make 431 after being 34-3 on a spinning wicket takes some effort. Centuries from Elgar and de Kock were the stand out knocks and it means they only trail India by 71 runs. Impressive figures from Ashwin to return 7-145 in his comeback Test.

The South African tail made them wait, but India have secured a big victory to go 1-0 up in the series. A double century for Mayank Agarwal, twin hundreds for Rohit Sharma, a seven wicket haul for Ravi Ashwin, and Mohammad Shami with a super five for in the final innings. They were the standout performances for the hosts, that helped them dominate this Test. The visitors did have good patches, especially in their efforts with the bat. Dean Elgar and Quinton de Kock both making centuries of their own. It wasn't enough for South Africa, though, and they will have to improve in a few areas to close the gap between the teams for the next Test, which starts on Thursday.
