Commentary

All-round Chennai Super Kings produced a near-clinical finish and registered a memorable win against hosts Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium in IPL 2023.

The MS Dhoni-led side dominated the game from the start and had a cakewalk in front of a capacity crowd at the venue.

There was no dearth of support for the Super Kings in Mumbai, which is a common sight wherever 'Thala' Dhoni travels. And the Super Kings didn't disappoint their fans as they didn't put a foot wrong on a venue where they last won back in 2018.

First Ravindra Jadeja's brilliance with the ball and his sensational return catch which put an end to Tim David's knock. The India all-rounder's bowling partnership with fellow left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner proved to be a gamechanger for CSK as they opted to field first.

Jadeja (3/20) produced a sensational bowling performance along with Santner (2/28) as Mumbai batters were caught in CSK's spin web. Local boy Tushar Deshpande also bagged a couple of wickets while debutant Sisanda Magala picked up a wicket to help CSK restrict MI to a below-par 157/8 in 20 overs.

Later, Ajinkya Rahane - playing his first game for CSK - turned the clock back to put an exhibition of a classy batting performance in the run chase. The Mumbaikar slammed the fastest fifty of the season (off 19 balls) smashed blistering 27-ball 61 to lay the foundation for an easy run chase for the Super Kings.

Shivam Dube (28 off 26), Ruturaj Gaikwad (40* off 36) and Ambati Rayudu (20* off 16) then finished the game for CSK.

There was nothing worth noticing for Mumbai in the game as they suffered their second defeat of the season.
