Jason Paul Behrendorff is an Australian international cricketer, who also plays for Western Australia at the domestic level. Jason is a left-arm bowler with good pace and is known for his ability to swing the ball. He was born on April 20, 1990, in Camden, New South Wales, Australia. However, as Behrendorff grew up in Canberra, he started his cricket career by playing for the Australian Capital Territory at both junior and senior levels.
Behrendorff was transferred to Western Australia from Australian Capital Territory for the 2010-11 season and made his state-level debut that year. He made his first-class debut the following year during the 2011–12 season, taking 13 wickets in five Shield matches. His exceptional domestic cricket performance helped him earn a spot in BBL 2012-13 season with the Perth Scorchers.
Notably, he was an integral part of the team when it won two consecutive titles in the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. Jason's outstanding play also helped him win Australia's Domestic Player of the Year award in January 2015. Soon, he got an opportunity to be a part of Australia's national squad for a T20I series against India in 2017. Two years later, he debuted in ODI cricket for Australia on January 12, 2019, against India.
IPL Career
Ahead of the 2018 Indian Premier League, Behrendorff was signed by Mumbai Indians. at the auction. However, the pacer couldn't participate in the season as he was ruled out due to a back injury. He was retained the following season by the Mumbai franchise and made his debut in the 2019 IPL against Chennai Super Kings. With the likes of Mitchell McClenaghan, Lasith Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah in the team, Behrendorff was limited to a utility role in the team as MI were crowned champions that season.
Behrendorff didn't play any game in the next three seasons despite being part of three franchises during the period, including CSK (2021) and RCB (2022) respectively. He was traded back to MI before the beginning of IPL 2023. The Aussie turned out to be a key new-ball bowler with 14 wickets in the season as the likes of Bumrah, Jofra Archer and Jhye Richardson struggled with injuries.
