Match Drawn

  • 96.5

OUT! Caught. Trent Boult to Jonny Bairstow. Short, down leg side on the back foot cutting, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to third man, by Taylor. Bairstow offers up a bit of catching practice for Taylor down at fly slip. Bumper from Boult, the Yorkshireman backs away and looks to ramp it over the third man fence, but cannot get enough bat on it to clear the fielder. Easily taken by the Kiwi veteran.

England will be delighted with the total, and have given their bowlers something to bowl at. A below par total on what looks like a decent batting track, but they are still in the game. New Zealand have the advantage on batting on this pitch when it is at it's best. See how they fare after a short break.

OUT! Caught. Tim Southee to Jack Leach. Seaming away length ball, to leg on the back foot defending, outside edge to wicketkeeper, by Watling. Peach of a ball from Southee. Too good for the debutant, but he has played a superb hand. Perfect line and length, nips the ball away, and a thick snick is snaffled behind by Watling. Six for Southee, and he moves to outright fourth in the leading wicket takers for New Zealand in Tests. Great achievement.

OUT! Caught. Stuart Broad to Trent Boult. Short, down leg side backing away hooking, top edge in the air uncontrolled to fine leg, by Malan. England can breathe a sigh of relief. Finally the lower order bashing comes to an end. Broad finishes things off. Bumper down leg, Boult has a go at it, and it loops down the throat of fine leg off the edge.

A great start to the day for the hosts. They have cut the lead to just 29, which isn't that significant. How many can the visitors muster to set New Zealand? See how they start their second go with the bat after a short break.

  • 88.4

SIX! James Anderson to Neil Wagner. Short, down leg side on the back foot hooking, top edge in the air uncontrolled over fine leg for 6 runs. Flaps at the ball, doesn't look comfortable at all playing the stroke, but it flies off the top edge once more, and travels all the way for a maximum!

  • 106.4

OUT! Caught. Neil Wagner to Jonny Bairstow. Short, down leg side on the back foot pulling, top edge in the air uncontrolled to deep backward square leg, by Nicholls. A classic Wagner wicket to finish off the innings. Short, wide of off stump, and that meant that Bairstow had to fetch it and drag the ball into the legside. Couldn't get on top of the bounce, and the ball looped down to deep square leg for a simple grab.

Root calls for Leach to walk off with him, so England have set the Kiwis 382 to win. A mammoth target to get to, but they have a scheduled 137 overs to get it. Find out how they start the chase in a few minutes time.

Neil Wagner c James Vince b Joe Root 7 (103)

OUT! Caught. Verified by umpire after REFERRAL. Joe Root to Neil Wagner. Off break length ball, outside off stump on the front foot defending, bat-pad, fielded by Vince. Massive drama! What an innings from Neil Wagner. He is originally given out LBW by the onfield umpire, but he reivews instantly. Massive inside edge, but it was caught in close at silly point, so he has to go anyway!

As Tim Southee starts to walk out onto the field, the umpires say that the light is not good enough to continue, so New Zealand have done it! What an incredible Test match. Grit, determination, and bravery from the New Zealand lower order. England tried everything, but could not get across the line.
