  • With the series level at 1-1 New Zealand have the chance to secure back-to-back Test series wins over Pakistan for the first time ever.
  • Pakistan have never lost a three match Test series in the UAE (W4, D2), in fact they have only ever lost two series at all in the UAE, Australia winning a two-match affair in 2002 and Sri Lanka also winning a two-match series in 2017.
  • This will be the third Test meeting between New Zealand and Pakistan at the Sheikh Zayed stadium in Abu Dhabi, Pakistan won their initial clash there in 2014 whilst the Black Caps won there in the 1st Test of this series.
  • Pakistan have lost just twice in 12 Test matches at the Sheikh Zayed stadium (W6, D4), however those two defeats have come in their last three matches at the venue.
  • New Zealand's Ross Taylor (6,384) needs 70 runs to move above Brendon McCullum (6,453) into second position on the Blacks Caps' all-time Test run scorers list, behind only Stephen Fleming (7,172).
  • Mohammad Abbas (Pakistan) has taken 38 Test wickets at an average of 13.8 so far in 2018; only Jason Holder (Windies, 12.4) has managed a better rate in this calendar year (min. 2 matches).
  • The last Test saw Yasir Shah record the third best Test innings figures by a Pakistan player (8/41) and the second best match figures for his country (14/184), they were the best match figures by any bowler since Rangana Herath returned the exact same figures (14/184) in August 2014 for Sri Lanka v Pakistan.
  • The second Test saw Kane Williamson (5,496) move above Martin Crowe into fourth spot on the all-time list of Test match runs for New Zealand, he is averaging 47 in 2018 so far, the last time he recorded an average lower than this was in 2013 (41.5).
  • Pakistan's spinners have taken 26 wickets in this series so far, compared to just 11 by New Zealand's spinners; however, the Black Caps' Ajaz Patel has the induced the highest false shot % of any spinner in the series (22%).
  • Yasir Shah (Pakistan) has dismissed New Zealand's Ross Taylor six times in Test cricket; the only other batsmen he has dismissed as often in this format is Steve Smith (6 times).
