Beau Jacob Webster is an Australian cricketer who has steadily built a reputation as a versatile all-rounder for Tasmania and the Melbourne Stars. Known for his unique skill set, Webster combines the roles of a right-handed batter and a bowler who is capable of both right-arm medium pace and off-spin. His versatility on the field was particularly highlighted during the 2020-21 Sheffield Shield season, when Webster introduced pace bowling to his repertoire, a skill he developed during the COVID-19 lockdown. Webster’s cricketing journey began with his debut for Tasmania in February 2014, when he played his first-class match against Queensland in the Sheffield Shield after representing the Tasmania Under-23 side. His potential as an all-rounder quickly became apparent, and in October 2016, he made his List A debut for Tasmania in the Matador BBQs One-Day Cup. Webster’s 229-run partnership with Jake Carder remains one of the highest second-wicket partnerships in Australian domestic List A history. His consistency continued throughout the competition, finishing as the top run scorer for Cricket Australia XI. In 2020, Webster further refined his skills by introducing medium pace bowling into his game, capitalizing on his height to generate extra bounce. This adaptation proved to be a valuable asset and further increased his all-rounder status. In 2023, he joined Essex for the One-Day Cup, where he excelled as the team's leading run-scorer and wicket-taker. His performances continued to impress, and in 2024, he was named as part of the Gloucestershire squad for the upcoming domestic season. Webster's standout performances reached a new level in the 2023–24 Sheffield Shield season, where he was named Player of the Series. His remarkable feat of scoring over 900 runs and taking 30 wickets in a single season made him only the second player in Sheffield Shield history, after Garfield Sobers, to achieve this rare double. His all-round dominance continued in October 2024 when he took his maiden List A five-wicket haul, recording figures of 6/17 during a spell that saw Western Australia lose 8 wickets for just a run. As a result of his exceptional performances, Webster’s growing stature has not gone unnoticed at the international level. In November 2024, he was called up to the Australian squad for the second Test against India as injury cover for Mitchell Marsh, marking a significant milestone in his career.
