Commentary
Dinesh Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmed showed their finishing skills and helped Royal Challengers Bangalore pull off a sensational run chase against Rajasthan Royals and secure a fabulous 4-wicket win.
RCB started the run chase on a positive note as captain Faf du Plessis and Anuj Rawat shared the opening stand of 55 runs. But all hell broke loose when Yuzvendra Chahal - who had been in the RCB jersey for the last 7 years - turned the tides for the Royals. From 55 for no loss, RCB were 62/4 in a space of 12 deliveries.
Chahal, the wily leg-spinner, first dismissed Du Plessis in his first over. He then got Virat Kohli run out in his next over and cleaned up David Willey for a golden duck with an absolute beauty. With 2/25, Chahal put RCB on the mat but the rest of the bowlers lost the plot in the death overs.
However, seasoned campaigner Dinesh Karthik proved why he's one of the best finishers in the business with his big-hitting skills in death overs.
Along with young all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed (45 off 26), the wicketkeeper-batsman shared a stand of 67 off 32 balls for the sixth wicket.
Karthik scored 44* off 23 balls and guided his team to their second successive win. It was also RR's first defeat in the tournament.
Earlier in the day, after slamming a sensational century in the previous game, Jos Buttler once again showed his brilliance with the bat as he smashed a 47-ball 70* and carried his bat through.
Along with Hetmyer (31-ball 42*), Buttler added 42 runs in the last two overs to help Rajasthan Royals finish with a flourish. The duo shared an unbeaten partnership of 83 off 50 deliveries to give the Royals a late impetus.
RCB move one step up in the point table at sixth while RR stay at the top with two wins in three games.
