  • Uganda will be making their debut appearance at a men’s T20 World Cup after qualifying through the Africa Regional final, winning five out of six matches; Afghanistan will be playing at their seventh straight men’s T20 World Cup after failing to qualify for the first two editions.
  • This will be the first meeting between Afghanistan and Uganda in International cricket, with the former having lost in each of its last two games when facing an opponent for the first time (vs Australia in November 2022 & vs New Zealand in November 2021); Uganda have won each of their last three such games, including a win against Zimbabwe (5-wickets on 26 November 2023) in their first ever men’s T20I meeting.
  • Uganda have won eight of their last 10 men’s T20Is (L2), including a 106-run victory over Kenya in their most recent match in the format (23 March 2024); both the Cranes’ losses in this span came while batting second (by 24 runs vs Namibia on 21 March 2024 & by 2 runs vs Rwanda on 11 December 2023).
  • Afghanistan have lost each of their last five matches in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, their longest such losing streak in the history of the competition; the Afghans’ last win in the competition came by a 62-run margin (vs Namibia) in October 2021.
  • Uganda have lost just one their last 13 men’s T20Is (W12) when batting first on the day, including wins in each of their last six such instances; on the contrary, the Cranes have lost two of their last five games (W3) when chasing on the day.
  • Afghanistan have registered a collective bowling average of 21.2 in men’s T20Is since the start of 2023, the best among all full-member sides; in fact, only England (17) among full-member sides have logged a better bowling strike rate than the Afghans (17.1) during the same span.
  • Alpesh Ramjani has a bowling economy rate of 4.7 in men’s T20Is, the best among Uganda bowlers to have bowled in at least 10 innings in the format; Ramjani has taken 70 wickets in the format, the second most by any Cranes bowler (Henry Ssenyondo – 94).
  • Mohammad Nabi (19 wickets) is one away from becoming the second Afghanistan bowler to take 20 wickets in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after Rashid Khan (23); however, Nabi has taken a wicket in just three of his eight innings in the format in 2024.
  • Simon Ssesazi has struck 223 boundary fours in men’s T20Is, the most by Uganda player and 90 more than the next best (Roger Mukasa – 133); in fact, Ssesazi is just one of two players outside of full-member sides to have hit more than 200 fours (Scotland’s George Munsey – 221).
  • Fazalhaq Farooqi has induced a false shot rate of 47.3% when bowling in men’s T20Is since the start of 2023, the third best among full-member side bowlers (min. 25 overs bowled) after New Zealand’s Lockie Ferguson (54%) and Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman (47.9%); among the Afghans, only Azmatullah Omarzai (20) has taken more wickets in the format during this span than Farooqi (16).
