  • Since November 1995 England are the only away side to win at the SCG, with the Baggy Greens picking up 18 wins and three draws since Pakistan's win more than 22 years ago (L2 to England).
  • Both sides have picked up two wins apiece in the four Ashes matches at the Sydney Cricket Ground this century, prior to this period England had not won there since 1979 (D4, L3).
  • The 4th Test of this series was the first draw in the Ashes since the sides met at The Oval in 2013, with Australia winning 10 matches and England three since then.
  • England have now gone nine Tests without a win in Australia (D1, L8), only twice have they gone on a longer drought (1937-1951, D2, L10; 1987-1995, D4, L6).
  • In 2017 Australia lost an average of just 12 wickets per match in their home Test matches, only South Africa boasted a better such rate at home (9.8).
  • Steven Smith has a false shot rate of just 8% in this series, the only player to dip below the 10% rate, of the 16 batsmen so face 200+ balls Mark Stoneman has the highest false shot rate (28%).
  • Thanks to his 244* in the 4th Test of this series Alastair Cook overtook Mahela Jayawardene, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Brian Lara in the all-time top run scorers list for Test cricket, now sitting in sixth spot just 44 runs shy of reaching 12,000 runs.
  • Steven Smith scored 1,305 Test runs in 2017, a tally that was 165 more than any other player and included six 100s, only once before has an Australian hit more centuries in a calendar year – Ricky Ponting seven in 2006.
  • Smith is currently averaging 151 in this series, the best ever rate by a batsman in an Ashes series to have batted in more than two innings, the previous best was held by Geoffrey Boycott (147.3 in 1977).
  • Moeen Ali is currently averaging 135 with the ball in this series, only twice before has an England bowler offered a worse average in an Ashes series (500+ deliveries, George Hirst 152 in 1897/98, John Warr 281 in 1951).
